These bird-like doorstops are made of paper. This is a group project I did with Rosie-Beth Stewart, Jamie Clark. We cooperated with the company G . F Smith who offered us lots of
waste paper, we need to turn them into products that can be mass- produced. In our research, we found that when we use guillotine cutters, it produces a lot of paper strips, which usually end up in the trash, so we were exploring ways to repurpose these paper strips and we found a craft form called Quilling.
It is a craft method of creating beautiful patterns by curling and folding strips of paper.
We first cut out the shape of the bird on a wood piece according to the outline, and then fill the wooden frame with the quilted paper stripes. People around me generally thought they were beautiful and cute. Also, the softness of the paper allows it to function well.
